Significant changes to the EPA Lead Paint rule.
Published by Ed Burt in Contractor Certificaions • 3/2/2010 10:37:49 PM

There is a new EPA rule that goes into effect April 23rd that requires contractors (not a homeowner) to be trained and certified if they disturb more than 20 square feet of exterior painted surfaces or 6 square feet of interior painted surfaces in homes built prior to 1978.

Contractors who are not trained and certified may be fined over $30,000 PER DAY should they not follow the new rule. The term contractors may include painters, remodelers, electricians, and plumbers to name a few trades.

Burt Handyman, LLC is a certified Lead Safe Renovator. It cost approximately $1,500 in fees, tuition, travel, and lost revenues. In their infinite wisdom, the bureaucrats at the EPA just increased the costof your next painting project.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
